The Free Media Movement has vehemently condemned the assault on ‘Udayan’ news editor Gnanasundaram Kuhanathan. A statement on behalf of the FMM, signed by Udaya Kalupathirana, says the assault amounts to a breach of ethical and democratic rights to engage in the media profession.
It questions the authorities’ claim of democracy’s restoration in the North just days after the local government polls when the assault took place.
The FMM statement notes that perpetrators of none of the many attacks again ‘Udayan’ newspaper has been brought to book so far.
